Ayush Shetty falls out with Lee Chiuk Yiu as India crash out of Indonesia Open

It was a tough day for the Indian contingent at the Indonesia Open 2026 as all the big stars pulled out of the competition following Ayush Shetty’s loss on Thursday, June 4. Ayush lost to Lee Chiuk Yiu 21-16, 13-21, 14-21 to end in the round of 16.

earlier in the day PV Sindhu suffered a defeat at the hands of world number one An Se Youngleaving Ayush as the only hope for the Indian contingent. The 21-year-old got off to a great start, taking a 4-1 lead in the first game. Lee quickly bounced back to take the lead and that started a period where the momentum would swing like a pendulum.

It was Ayush who took the lead and managed to extend it to a six-point margin soon after the restart. While Lee returned to the scene, the Indian ace was able to fend off the challenge and secure the first game.

However, Lee found his groove in the second game and raced out to an 8-2 lead. His dominance continued after the break as the Hong Kong ace didn’t allow Ayush to get back into the match and quickly ended the second game to take the match to a decider.

Ayush took a 3-0 lead in the final but Lee went on a six-point run which eventually proved to be the difference. He took an 11-5 lead into the break and never showed signs of slipping.

The Hong Kong star had 10 match points to his name before sealing the deal to advance to the next round.

Ayush’s performance completes the big name disappointment at the Indonesia Open. Lakshya Sen a HS Prannoy left in the very first roundwhile Sat-Chi had to withdraw due to Satwik’s injury.
