(Photo/Getty Images) England begin their domestic summer with a three-Test series against New Zealand, with the first match starting at Lord’s on Thursday. The series is part of the 2025-27 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle and comes at an important stage for both sides.England entered the series after a difficult Ashes campaign in Australia. Ben Stokes’ side faced criticism after the defeat, but the management group comprising director of cricket Rob Key, head coach Brendan McCullum and captain Stokes have remained in place as England look to move forward.Since the Ashes, England have made several changes, including the introduction of a team curfew and the addition of more support staff. Among those named is former wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor, who has joined as outfield coach, becoming the first woman to coach an England men’s Test team.England can draw confidence from a similar situation in 2022. After losing the Ashes 4-0 in Australia and then suffering a 1-0 series defeat in the West Indies, Joe Root stepped down as captain. McCullum then took charge and England responded by defeating New Zealand 3–0. During this series, England scored 279, 299 and 296 in consecutive fourth innings chases.New Zealand, meanwhile, are set to field Kyle Jamieson and Will O’Rourke together in a full-strength attack for the first time in Test cricket.Jamieson is 2.07 meters (6 ft 8 in) while O’Rourke is 1.97 meters (6 ft 4 in). The pair have previously played together for Canterbury and in one-day internationals. Both are coming back from back injuries. Jamieson last appeared in a Test in February 2024, while O’Rourke immediately struck with nine wickets on debut against South Africa before being ruled out by injury. He has not played a Test since July 2025.There was also speculation that this could be Kane Williamson’s last tour of England. The 35-year-old has opted out of New Zealand’s central contract in 2024 and is now making his availability known on a series-by-series basis.Williamson is about 500 runs away from the 10,000-run mark in Test cricket. He also confirmed that this will be his fifth and final Test appearance at Lord’s, where he is yet to be part of a winning side.England vs New Zealand Test Series scheduleTest 1: 4-8 June, Lord’s, London – 3:30 PM IST2nd test: 17-21 June, The Oval, London – 3:30 PM IST3rd test: 25-29 June, Trent Bridge, Nottingham – 15:30 ISTMatch timingThe first Test will start at 15:30 IST on Thursday, with the draw scheduled for 15:00 IST.Where to watch in IndiaThe England-New Zealand Test series will be broadcast live on Sony Sports Network.
