The United States will again withdraw from the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which, according to reporting US and European officials, will indicate further conversion of the multilateral approach of President Joe Biden. This step is part of President Donald Trump’s renewed campaign about US distance from international institutions, which he considers hostile or incomparable to American interests.
White House: “UNESCO is out of step”
“President Trump has decided to withdraw the United States from UNESCO-Cozh, supporting the awakened, dividing cultural and social causes that are completely beyond the policy of common sense, for which Americans voted in November,” said White House spokesman Anna Kelly, as quoted by New York Post.
The administration quoted the priest, justice and the integration of the agency and the perceived bias in favor of Palestine and China. The White House official told the intelligence outlet that UNESCO “used its influence on progress in global standards favorable to Beijing’s interests” and “power through anti-Israeli and anti-Jewish events”.
Historical places in the center of controversy
UNESCO based in Paris is best known for the designation of world heritage sites. However, American officials protested against some recent lists and accused the agency of the inheritance politicization by calling the Jewish holy places as “Palestinian world heritage”.
Precedens from past selections
This is not the first time the US has divided with the agency. The country first withdrew from UNESCO in 1984 under President Ronald Reagan with citing poor management and against American bias. After the reforms he joined in 2003 for President George W. Bush. Trump previously pulled out the US in 2017 for similar reasons and Biden re -joined in 2021.
The latest withdrawal comes as Trump Reimplechssirs ossirel disconnecting from global institutions. Since returning to the White House in 2025, Trump decided to leave the world health organization (WHO) and reduce the financing of the Palestinian auxiliary agency Unrwa.
“This president always gives America to the first place and ensures membership in our country in all international organizations in accordance with our national interests,” Kelly added.
