
The Paris Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen officially withdrew from 2025 US Open, the organizers of the tournament announced on Monday 21 July.
World No. 6 recently underwent elbow surgery and already had announced a break from the WTA tour. The 22 -year -old Chinese star revealed that she had experienced permanent pain in her right elbow during training and matches, leading her to medical specialists. She then decided on arthroscopic surgery.
Zheng did not compete from its loss of the first round to Katerina Siniakov from Katerina in Wimbledon.
In a report published on Instagram, she assured the Australian Open Runner-up fans to focus on recovery and promise to return as a stronger version of himself.
“After consulting with elbow specialists and a thorough discussion of my team, we decided that arthroscopic surgery was the best choice to fully solve the problem. Yesterday I underwent the procedure successfully and I am grateful for being behind it,” Zheng wrote.
“Now the recovery journey is starting. I will focus on rehabilitation in the next few weeks and months – everything I can to return stronger and healthier.”

Zheng had a challenging run in the Grand Slam 2025 season. The year began with early departure to the Australian Open and in the second round she fell into Laura Siegemund. She reached the quarterfinals at the French Open, but was defeated by the world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. Her struggles continued in Wimbledon, where she suffered the loss of the first round.
The US Open will take place from August 24 to September 7th. Aryna Sabalenka returns as a defending champion in women’s singles, while Jannik Sinner holds the title in male singles.
