In a surprising step, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar offered his resignation from the first day of the monsoon meeting of parliament.
Dhankhar sent his resignation to President Driskat Murmuma and said he had resigned with immediate effect to prefer health care and mention Article 67 (a. (A) of the Constitution.
“To prefer health care and follow the medical council, I resign as the vice president of India, which is immediately effective in accordance with Article 67 (a) of the Constitution,” reads Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation letter.
Dhankhar, who is also chairman of Rajya Sabha, resigned lessons after the first meeting of Rajya Sabha as chairman during the monsoon meeting of parliament, which began on July 21.
Dhankhar, 74, took over the office in August 2022 and his tenure was until 2027.

Article 67 (a). A) Indian institutions allow Vice President to voluntarily resign before the end of their five -year term by presenting a written resignation to the President.

Jagdeep Dhankhar took over the role of Vice President in August 2022. According to the official period of five years, his term would end in 2027.
However, Dhankhar by calling for Article 67 (a). A) offered his resignation two years before the end of tenure.
Dhankhar expresses gratitude
Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed gratitude to President Drouzp Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Ministers’ cabinet. He also said he felt proud of being part of Indian development as an economic power and as a global entity.
“When I leave this esteemed office, I am full of pride in Bharat’s global rise and phenomenal success and keeping the unwavering confidence in her brilliant future,” he said in a letter.
Sibal Chapel reacts to Dhankha’s resignation
Rajya Saba MP Sibal said he was “groped” by Jagdeep Dhankha’s resignation and told his experience with working with the Vice President.
Sibal said he knew Jagdeep Dhankhar for 30-40 years and described his personal relationship with VP as warm and respectful, remarked legal friendship and shared moments at family events. Despite the different political views, Sibal said they maintained mutual respect, and Dhankhar often accommodated him generously in parliamentary proceedings. He wanted Dhankhar good health and a long life.
“Maybe we had differences in our political views or in views, but we had a very strong bond at personal level. Whenever I needed time to talk in the house, I personally met him in my chamber and never refused me and gave me a little more time than it is otherwise available to independent members of parliament.”
