Alaska Airlines canceled more than 150 flights-including 64 on Monday-PO the entire ground ground stop system caused by critical IT hardware failure in its data centers late Sunday.
The airline temporarily stopped all the air flights in Alaska and Horizon for approximately three hours, starting with around 20:00 Pacific on Sunday after a key piece of multi-medant hardware unexpectedly failed. The operation continued around 23:00, but the impact is expected to persist for days.
“Another flight disruption is likely when we moved the aircraft and crews in our network,” the airline said in its statement.
No incident in cyber security
The carrier based in Seattle stressed that the problem is not related to recent cyber security incidents, including attacking Microsoft servers at the weekend or from the June violation that Hawaiian Airlines reported.
“It was not a cyber security event,” Alash’s airline confirmed, attributed a third -party hardware failure.
The airline said: “A critical piece of multi-laundant hardware in our data centers produced by a third party has seen an unexpected failure.”
The airline explained that the incident was not related to other recent events, including the Microsoft Server attack at the weekend and June violation of cyber security at Hawaiian Airlines.
The unsuccessful device influenced several basic systems needed for flight operations, although Alaska did not specify which systems were affected. The airline is now working closely with the supplier to replace the defective hardware.
