Sulur sexual assault and murder case: Police remand two accused for three days

A special POCSO court in Coimbatore on Wednesday (June 3) granted three-day police custody to two accused in a case related to the alleged sexual assault-cum-murder of a 10-year-old girl near suburban Sulur recently.

Both, K. Karthi (35) and R. Mohan (31) of Pallapalayam, were produced before the court amid tight police security.

Karthi was brought to court in an ambulance and on a stretcher as he allegedly broke his right arm and right leg while trying to escape from the police on May 22. He was later assaulted by four convicts in the Coimbatore Central Jail while in judicial custody.

The investigation team had moved the court a few days ago seeking the custody of the duo as the police could not interrogate them in detail before recording their arrest on May 23.

An investigation team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Karikal Pari Shankar interrogates Karthi and Mohan in custody to get more details about the crime, from its preparation to its execution. To revisit the crime scene, the police are expected to take the accused to a private land adjacent to the Kannampalayam tank near Suluru and other places linked to the crime.
