Thiruvananthapuram Corporation has an implementation of a centralized monitoring system to monitor the functioning of street lights in the capital. Along with the civic body, the project is piloting the project to install QR codes for electric contributions so that the public can scan and report directly to the corporate bodies if the particular street light does not work.
According to Medayil Vikraman, chairman, permanent committee for the company, the implementation of a centralized monitoring system will help in a more efficient management system of street lighting lighting in the city.
“As soon as the system becomes fully functional, we get information about non -functional street lighting in the Integrated City Control Center (ICCC) set up in the main office in Palayam. Currently, about 90% of the installation of centralized monitoring system is completed.
No fixed amount
Street lighting in the city is now managed on the basis of a model of public and private sector partnerships, through which the corporation does not pay a fixed amount per year for maintenance of street lighting. Payment from corporation to a private company managing street lighting will depend on the picture of functioning street lights in real time collected from the centralized monitoring system.
The contract also has a clause to impose an amount if it cannot repair defective street lights within 48 hours.
