The Paddy Farmers of Palakkad referred to the state government to speed up the payment for the public procurement of public procurement during the second season. They warn that the constant failure of timely payments can lead to a reduction in unpeeed cultivation in the state.
In the Memorandum for the Minister of Agriculture P. Prasad’s farmers under the auspices of Rashtriya Kisan Maha Sangh (RKMS), they said that 33,327 farmers in the district had received money for Neloupana three months ago.
RKMS Vice -President Muthamphoda Mani and the Sajeesh Kuthanoor District Converator said the government owed farmers 243.94 Crore for their unperted. “Neither banks nor suppplyco are able to say when the farmer gets his money,” said Mr. Mani.
They said that the government system for awarding public procurement of the government, which was to support farmers and maintain unpeeled cultivation, began because of its own apathy and inactivity of the government.
“The authorities are trying to plan unpeeed awarding public procurement before harvesting, which leads to delay. Supplyco cannot collect unpeeed in time and the reception certificates (breasts) are also released late.
He warned that unpeeled cultivation would further shrink in Kerala if the government continued the same attitude. “Kerala had 8.75 Paddy-missing hectare in 1975-80. This has now decreased to 1.75-2 lakh hectares. It is likely that it will reduce if problems with unpeeled public procurement are not dealt with,” Mr. Mani said.
