
KP Ashokan, 54, Kannanatt Jewells in Ramapurama, near Pale, in Kottayam succumbed to injuries on Sunday, the day after he was lit after a financial dispute.
The accused was identified as Thulaseedasan aka Hari, a cement trader who operates outside the building owned by Ashokan. According to the police, the financial dispute between Ashokan and Thulaseedasan culminated in a fatal attack. The incident occurred around 10.30 am on Saturday, when the accused plunged into the jewelry shop of the victim at the Ramapuram intersection, poured kerosene on him and lit him.
Ashokan, who suffered 85% of burns, was initially rushed to a private hospital in Pala and later moved to Kottayam Medical College, where he died during treatment.
After the attack, the accused fled from the scene, but later gave up the police station Ramapuram. Initially, he was accused of attempted murder and in his judicial custody. With Ashokan’s death, the accused will now be upgraded to murder.
