
Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has released a public counseling warning of citizens of new malware frauds that is spreading via WhatsApp, especially in the evening, using a file called “RTO Traffic Challan.apk”.
According to officials, cybernetic fraudsters actively send this apk file on the WhatsApp groups listed to look legitimate or associated with government authorities. The file is presented as an emergency warning from Regional Transport Office (RTO) and attract unsuspecting users to download.
After installation, a malicious application can bear the user’s device, access SMS messages, including one -time passwords (OTP), steal credit card and bank details, and even remotely control the phone. Victims usually begin to receive notifications the following morning about unauthorized credit card transactions, often associated with electronic trading platforms.
TGCSB warned users to never click or install APK files from unverified or unofficial sources.
“Golden Hour can save money,” he reads Advisory and urges users to install app only from trusted sources like Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Citizens were also recommended to allow OTP alert on all transactions and immediately block their cards if they suspect fraudulent activities.
In the case of cyber fraud, the victim should report the incident without delay dialing the free number 1930 or by visiting www.Cybercrime.gov.in.
