Four Tibetan settlements in Mysurur-Chamarajanagar districts launched a two-day cultural festival in the city on Saturday to mark the “year of compassion”, which resembles the 90th birthday of the Dalai Lama.
This is in line with the Directive from the Central Tibetan administration, which announced the period from 6 July 2025 to 6 July 2026 as a “year of compassion”, which means the 90th birthday of the 14th Dalai Lama.
The event takes place in Kalamandira and the organizers have said it is meaningful to the Tibetans as 80.
The Tibetan settlements organizing the event are Lugsung Samdupling and Larso blankets in Jeakuppe, Rabgayling in Hunsur and Dhondenling in Collegal, all of which are under the Central Tibetan administration.
“This event reflects the collective efforts of the local Tibetan community administration in India in honor of the” year of compassion “and the celebrating life and values of the Dalai Lama,” the organizers said.
Inspiring interviews and exhibitions on the life and learning of the Dalai Lama, the depiction of Buddhist art, rituals and traditional Tibetan cuisine, in addition to Tibetan cultural performances, will be held within the program. The program intends to disseminate the permanent report of the compassion and resistance of the Dalai Lama, they added.
The Tibetan monks also expressed gratitude to the Indian government and the Karnatak government and remembered the contribution of the late S. NijalingAppa, the then main minister of what was the ground for Tibetan rehabilitation.
