The upcoming Asian cricket council (ACC), scheduled for July 24 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, is facing a major crisis after the Crytket Council in India (BCCI) and several other member councils decided to boycott the meeting over political and diplomatic concerns.
The best source today said India that BCCi officially informed the chairman of ACC and the Pakistanic cricket council Mohsin Naqvi that he would not participate in the meeting if it took place in Dhace. The decision stems from the current tense political relations between India and Bangladesh.
In addition to India, cricket boards from Sri Lanka, Oman and Afghanistan reportedly joined the boycott and quoted similar reservations about the venue. Despite the growing opposition, it is said that the chairman of ACC Mohsin Naqvi is stubborn about organizing a meeting in Dhaka.
“Bcci clearly told his attitude both ACC and NAQVI. They also personally asked to change the venue, but there was no answer yet,” said India today.
According to the ACC Constitution, any decision made at a meeting in Dhaka could be considered invalid without the participation of key Member Councils. This raised concerns about potential blockage, especially with the Asian Cup – tiring planned in September – in balance.
Sources also proposed that Naqvi’s insistence on the management of a meeting in Dhace is perceived as an attempt to spend Disproportionate pressure on India over the affairs of the Cup of Asia. ACC remains only five days until the planned meeting, ACC was not made by official communication regarding any change in the place, so the future of the Asian Cup uncertainty.
