Venezuela released 10 Americans because she is preparing to receive a group deported from prison in Salvador after an unexpected breakthrough in ongoing interviews with the US.
Foreign Minister Marco Rubio said that previously the detention of the Americans were “on the way to freedom” on Friday and thanked El Salvador’s Nayib Bukele for helping their release. Rubio also said that the Venezuelan political prisoners were released without adding details.
About 250 Venezuelans, deported to the US to Salvador in March, are now ready for Caracas later, according to people who are familiar with things who have asked not to be identified to avoid repression.
Their return was the long -term requirement of President Nicolás Madur and his highest officials. The Bukele government has publicly declared that it has no legal jurisdiction over deported, which effectively prepares a way for Venezuelan and American negotiators to conclude the agreement.
Venezuel’s sovereign bonds increased through the curve and the ripening notes in 2034 gained 0.5 cents per dollar for trade around 23 cents, the highest level in almost two months, according to indicative price data compiled by Bloomberg.
As part of the negotiations, seven children who were separated from their parents in the middle of deportations arrived at Caracas on Friday. Maduro was shown that he welcomed children and their families in the presidential palace on state television.
Their return signals that interviews between Venezuela and the US continued, even after President Donald Trump’s administration banned something more than basic maintenance in the South American nation at the end of May. This has postponed a significant contributor to the country’s economy, which has brought almost a quarter of its oil production in recent years and brought the much needed flow of dollars to its banking system.
“This operation is the result of months of negotiating with a tyrannical regime that has long refused to release one of its most valuable barriers: its hostages,” Bukele said on X.
This year the US deported about 8,000 Venezuelans through direct repatriation flights. It also ensured the release of seven American prisoners through swaps arranged by Trump’s special ambassador of Ric Grenell.
Venezuela currently holds about 950 political prisoners, of which more than 80 have a foreign nationality, according to a group of human rights in Caracas.
