The 27 -year -old man was arrested on Thursday after he surrendered before the administrative officer of the village of Melmangalam in the case of rape and murder of 42 -year -old women in the restrictions of the Nagudi police station.
The police said the victim was a resident in the village of Karanikad. The name of the accused was given as A. Kalidas. The victim’s body was found near “Kanmoi” in the Karungulian. The defendant allegedly committed a crime when a woman took a few days ago under a tree in the rain and escaped from the crime scene.
Five special teams were created for the case probes.
The police initially considered it a case of death as suspicious circumstances. However, after giving up the accused, this case was changed in the BNS sections of which 103 (murder) and 64 (rape). The defendant was transferred in judicial custody and deposited in prison in the Pudukottai district, police sources said.

Meanwhile, Araranhangi Mla St Ramacandran appealed on Friday to the main minister to provide Solatium to the victim’s family.
He called on the main minister to provide government work to one of the family members of the victim for humanitarian reasons.
