‘Before they retire…’: Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli on Harsh Dubey’s ‘dream come true moment’

The 23-year-old Vidarbha and Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder has been named in both India’s ODI and Test squads for the upcoming home series against Afghanistan.The youngster admitted that it took him a few minutes to process the news, especially the prospect of sharing a dressing room with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, two players he admired during his cricketing journey.“If you ask any young cricketer who they would like to play with right now, the first two names would be Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. I grew up watching them. They have been performing for India and dominating world cricket since I started understanding cricket. So getting a chance to play with them is a huge achievement for me,” Dubey said on Jiostar.“I have always wanted to play alongside at least one legend before they retire or whenever their last phase comes. Even if I play one match with them, it will be a dream come true for me,” he added.Dubey revealed that he learned of his selection through a bizarre misunderstanding while waiting for a flight delay at the Chennai airport with his SRH teammates. In an interview with JioStar, Dubey recalled getting a call from the sports social media manager asking how it felt to be selected in the ODI team.

“We arrived at the airport and found out our flight was delayed by an hour. I got a call from someone who runs a social media cricket page and asked me how I felt about my name being in the ODI series. Because of the noise and network issues in the lounge I thought he meant Sri Lanka AND the ODI tri-series, so I said it felt like one step closer to the dream and that I was still focused on IPL.”“As soon as I hung up, I started getting messages that I had received both a Test and an ODI call-up. I was confused because the group had just been announced, so I quickly looked on the internet and saw the messages. It honestly took me a few minutes to process what had happened. Even when Murali sir asked me who the other spinners in the team were, I told him that I only saw my own name.
