Those who believe that government schools are lower than private in terms of infrastructure and teaching facilities will change their opinion if they encounter this public school in Karnataka (KPS), located in the village of Honganur in the Taluk channel in Bengalur South District.
This government school is at the same level as any international school in Bengalur, because the 50-room school has about 40 computers, mathematical and scientific laboratories, digital pedagogical plates, well-equipped library and sports facilities.
Previously, this school did not differ from another government school of rural areas. However, the transformation was possible due to the initiative of the medical entrepreneur HM Venkatappa, a doctor and graduates of this school, who contributed 14 GBP Crore to the construction of a new building and the establishment of the required infrastructure.
Tight
“I studied at this school from the first to eighth standard between 1949 and 1957. Teachers of this school were helpful in shaping the foundations for their educational career. Poor students from rural areas will gain access to high quality education without costs,” said a 79 -year -old doctor who set up Kanva Diagnostics Private Limited.
The old building on four and a half acres of land was fully demolished in June 2022 and two new buildings were built in the next two and a half years. The school was transformed into KPS including LKG/UKG into II PU and offers both Kannada and English medium. School, named after the parents of Dr. Venkappy Chennamma and Manche Gowd have already started its activities from this academic year.
The new school has become so popular that the strength of students increased by 150 to 200 this year, with the total number of students to approximately 800 at a time when government schools generally report a huge decline in enrollment.
In addition to a one -time CRORE 14 GBP, VenkatAppa also decided to contribute approximately 10 lakhs annually to take care of the school’s maintenance. Since the school would have to hire guest teachers, he decided to pay another 5,000 GBP per head, except for a monthly fee of 12,500 GBP, which the government has.
Inauguration today
The new school will be formally inaugurated by the Deputy Minister of DK Shivakumar on Friday in a program organized by the State Government. Minister of School Education Madhu Bangappa said that his department would try to obtain more such contributions through the involvement of the school monitoring committees to improve other government schools.
