The cabinet meeting, which took place here on Thursday, submitted the approval of the principle for the construction of a protective sea wall along the areas affected by the sea erosion on the section Pozhiyoor-Colemcode in Thiruvananthapuram. The work, worth 43.65 GBP Crore, will be carried out on a section of 1.2 km according to the proposal approved by the National Coastal Research Center (NCCR).
Sea erosion and exhaustion of the beach have threatened the lives and properties of hundreds of fishing coasts along the coastal section, which led to friction with the authorities, especially during the period before the monsoon and monsoon.
According to the cabinet note, the Coordination Committee of the PMU (project management unit) will be created on the lines of the model accepted in Chelllanam in Ernacula. Kerala Infrastructure Development Infrastructure Development Corporation (KIIDC) will be appointed for a special special -purpose vehicle (SPV) and will be available through the Keral (KIIFB) Information Fund (KIIFB), the cabinet briefing said.

Fisherfolk in the region requires the construction of a protective seafood and port at the same time, as they feared that the construction of the seabed wall itself would prevent their fishing activities. Pozhiyoor is one of 10 hotspots vulnerable to heavy coastal erosion in a state identified by irrigation department.
