In the last 24 hours, at least 19 people have been killed by lightning strikes in Bihar, PTI reported on Thursday, July 17, 2025, citing the Office of the Chief Minister.
The highest number of five deaths was reported in Nalanda, followed by Vaisali with four and a bank and a patna each with two. In addition to these four districts, Sheikhpura, Nawada, Jehanabad, Aurangabad, Jamui and Samastipur reported one death.
Bihar Minister Nitish Kumar expressed grief over deaths £4 Lakh for the families of each deceased and asked people to proceed with caution during unfavorable weather conditions.

Describing the incident, the police station Mufasil sho Shambh Bhagat quoted the PTI and said, “At least three people were killed after being hit by lightning on Monday afternoon. Immediately after the information, the district administration officials arrived and took some injured persons to the nearest government hospital.”
Days after this incident, the Green Tribunal National Court asked the Central Council for Control (CPCB) and other parties concerning the extensive limit of palm trees in Bihar, allegedly associated with an increase in the death of lightning, according to the PTI report.
The green body has initiated a newspaper -based newspaper report on extensive palm removal, allegedly associated with a significant increase in lightning -related deaths, leading to a loss of more than 2,000 lives since 2016 in Bihar.
