At the meeting on June 6, titled ‘By, for and of the People: Good Governance for Telangana’, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will be speaking to The Hindu’s N. Ram. The talk will cover selected aspects of governance, development and welfare delivery and what the Congress government has been able to achieve since the party’s victory in the 2023 assembly elections. Led by a young and energetic Chief Minister, the Congress party in Telangana has been able to consolidate its political position with a resounding triumph in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and impressive wins in the subsequent local polls. But what about fulfilling the Prime Minister’s ambitious agenda?
The session will cover Hyderabad-led economic development in Telangana over the past decade, with a double-digit annual growth rate well above the national average. The Chief Minister will also be asked about the implementation of his party’s ‘Six Guarantees’ election promise and the specifics of welfare provision such as free bus travel for women, the 200 units of free electricity per household scheme and farm and housing support schemes.
The interview will touch on the state’s industrial and investment policy, its fiscal crisis, government social justice initiatives that have been thwarted by the courts, and political issues such as Union-state relations, state rights, delimitation, the relationship of the chief minister with the governor and with the Andhra Pradesh government.
Mr. Revanth Reddy will also be invited to present his medium and long-term vision for the all-round development of Telangana as one of the most developed states of India. As in the previous edition of the Huddle, he will be answering questions from viewers.
