The protests are timed to match the fifth anniversary of Lewis’s death, and the goal was to build the momentum of voting rights, women’s rights, immigrants and economic justice.
“Good trouble” in the spirit of John Lewis
The phrase “good problems” was Lewis greatly used to describe what kind of disturbing, non -violent behavior necessary to achieve social changes. The organizers claim that they have received the blessing of the Lewis family to trigger his legacy.
“That’s exactly what Congressman Lewis meant when he spoke of good problems-the way to serve your community,” said Allison Pulliam, co-founder of the US democracy coalition, one of the groups of protests coordinating.
Events planned in all 50 states
The main events are planned in cities, including Chicago, Atlanta, St. Louis, Annapolis and Washington, DC, while hundreds of smaller gatherings will also take place in cities across American places Los Angeles, Houston, Philadelphia, Dallas, Phoenix, Austin, Columbus, Columbus, Charlotte and New York City, as in Alkaii and Hawaii.

Not only protests – also community action
Along with the assembly and march, many actions will include moral assemblies, food units, teaching, units for registration of voters and signing stations.
“People appear in their communities in the way they feel, led to showing,” Pulliam said. “Whether it is chalk art or civic education, it is a connection and actions.”
In Yonkers in New York, local Naacp groups and indivisible groups organize an event in Van der Donck Park. The organizer Andrea Skipper said he expects about 200 people, with activities from the art of chalk to voter education.
The organizers expect historical participation despite timing on weekdays
Despite the protests held in the middle of the week, the participation is expected to be high. Most events are scheduled for typical working hours and some will start early in the morning.
“These are the largest one -day voting rights and a lawsuit against civil rights in all 50 countries and international level in American history,” said Barbara Arnwine, co -founder of Transformative Justice Coalition. “And the biggest event on the working day this year.”
