Monsoon Tracker: IMD predicts thunderstorms in Mumbai, heat wave in Bihar – what it says about Delhi | Today’s news
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorm activity in several parts of North, Central and West India in the next few days. Gusty winds, hail and isolated dust storms are expected in several states. While rain activity is likely to bring relief from rising temperatures in some regions, Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra are expected to continue with rain and thundershowers.
Rain in Mumbai
Rain lashed parts of Mumbai and its suburban areas on Wednesday morning.

According to the latest update from IMD, isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thundershowers and wind speed of 40-50 kmph is likely over Konkan and Goa between June 3 and 6. Similar weather conditions are also expected in Mumbai and surrounding districts.
Madhya Maharashtra is expected to remain flat during this period, while Marathwada may witness rains on June 3 and 4.
The forecast comes after several parts of Mumbai witnessed intermittent rains for the past few days. Rain is expected to continue in the city.
In western India, Gujarat is expected to receive rainfall and thundershowers between June 3 and 5. The IMD has issued a thunderstorm warning over the state on June 3 with winds of potentially 70 kmph.

Heat wave in Bihar
Meanwhile, Bihar is expected to face heat wave later this week.
Thunderstorms in North India
Thunderstorms with wind speed of 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph are likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on June 3-4. Similar conditions could be observed over West Rajasthan on June 3 and East Rajasthan on June 3 and 4.
In addition, isolated dust storms are likely to occur over some parts of West Rajasthan on Wednesday.
The forecast also indicated isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thundershowers, lightning and winds over central India in the next five days.
For Delhi, news agency ANI said that weather conditions are expected to remain favorable, with less chance of heat wave in the first week of June.
On Wednesday, the IMD has predicted partly clear skies with thundershowers and light rain likely at isolated places.
Thunderstorms in Central India
Madhya Pradesh is likely to witness thunderstorms with wind speed of 50-60 kmph, reaching up to 70 kmph on June 3 and 4. Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh will see similar thunderstorm and wind activity between June 4 and 6, the IMD said.
The Met office has also predicted isolated hailstorm over Madhya Pradesh on June 4.
Overall weather forecast
The ministry also mentions the changing temperature patterns in the country during the next week.
Maximum temperatures in parts of northwest India are likely to rise by 2-4°C by June 3, before falling by a similar margin in the next two days. However, an increase of 2-4°C is expected around June 7 and 8.
In eastern India, temperatures may rise by 2-3°C by June 31 before stabilizing.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra is expected to see a 2-3°C drop in temperatures till June 3 with rain.
Regions like Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Konkan, Goa, Odisha, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are expected to remain hot and humid this week.
