‘Our bus caught fire’: Jos Buttler reveals horrifying incident after Gujarat Titans IPL 2026 final loss to RCB

Jos Buttler (Image credit: BCCI/IPL) NEW DELHI: Gujarat Titans star batsman Jos Buttler has revealed details of a terrifying security scare for the team’s players and support staff following their IPL 2026 final defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on the 31st.The incident took place when the Gujarat Titans contingent was returning to the team hotel after a five-wicket loss in Ahmedabad on Sunday night. The short reportedly caused smoke to spread inside the team bus, forcing the players and support staff to evacuate the vehicle and wait by the roadside until a replacement bus was arranged. Fortunately, all team members and support staff were safe and unharmed. The unexpected incident added to what was already a disappointing season for Gujarat Titans, who fell short in their quest for a second IPL title.Recalling the episode, Buttler said the events on the way back summed up GT’s frustrating night perfectly.“There’s always going to be a winner and a loser, so someone has to be a loser. But unfortunately it was us and our night kind of came to an end at two in the morning on the bus home. The guys in the back started smelling smoke and we all got off the bus and stood on the side of the road. Well, I’m sure the RCB party was in full swing. Our winning title was in full swing. Our bus title didn’t disappoint. It’s going to take a while to get over it, to be honest.” Buttler said.Gujarat Titans, who finished second in the points table, improved significantly after losing Qualifier 1 to Royal Challengers Bengaluru. They defeated Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets in Qualifier 2 to reach their third IPL final in five seasons. However, the 2022 champions could not overcome RCB in the title clash as the defending champions successfully chased down the target to retain the trophy. After the defeat, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill admitted that his team failed to post a competitive total in the summit clash.“If we got to 180-190 it would have been a good game. Maybe a little two-paced, but not much. There’s some early movement from the pacers. We lost early wickets and never got the momentum going. We felt we’d be in the game if we took 1-2 wickets in the powerplay,” Gill said after the match. For Gujarat Titans, the defeat marked a painful end to an otherwise impressive campaign, while a bizarre bus breakdown ensured their disappointing night continued long after the last ball was bowled.
