
Pithoragarh, July 15 (PTI)- Eight people were killed and five injured when the jeep fell into a deep ravine on Tuesday, the police said.
The incident occurred in the village of Suni in the Thal area, while the passengers traveled to the village of Bokta, they said.
Expressing grief over the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced £2 lakh ex gratia for the deceased and £50,000 for injured individuals.
In a contribution on the Social Media Platform x, the Prime Minister’s Office said: “Indeed, the loss of lives as a result of a road accident in Pitchhagarh, Uttarakhand. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in non -insurance.
The driver lost control of the vehicle and caused him to throw himself into a deep ravine. Eight people, including five women and three men, died on the spot, said Thal Shyankar Singh Rawat.
He added that after receiving information about the accident, the police and the SDR (SDRF) team got to the place and started rescue operations using local residents.
The injuries were rushing to the hospital in Muwani, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Officer Management of the Pitch Agricagarh Bhupendra Singh Maher confirmed that the bodies were obtained from the gorge. They were all local.
