Record thunderstorms on Monday evening were soaked in New York City and neighboring states and released lightning floods that stopped most of the region. Central Park saw over 2 inches of rain per hour at the top of the storm, stunning metro systems and suspended more train lines. Roads and highways via New York, New Jersey and Connecticut were immersed, so motorists were stuck and stimulated emergency rescue.
Chaos weather has spread to air transport, with more than 1200 cancellations of flights reported at the main nodes such as JFK, Laguardia and Newark. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has declared an emergency, while the flood warnings were stretched into Maryland and Virginia on Tuesday.
