
The Ministry for Support of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has selected Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi between 50 Tier-2/3 cities across the country for the preparation of urban logistics plans to reduce logistics costs, overload and improve links. The state government has now proposed a headquarters for urban affairs as a nodal agency for coordination activities related to the city’s logistics plans. The aim of national logistics policy (NLP) is to manage economic growth and business competitiveness through integrated, efficient, sustainable and cost -effective logistics network using advanced technology, processes and qualified workforce. The city logistics plans are expected to be a complex framework to optimize the movement of urban goods, reduce costs and minimize environmental impact. It will be a strategic plan to adequately solve the urban needs of the transport and logistics of the population and enterprises of the city to achieve economic growth with better quality of life and the environment. CLP helps identify the main needs, plan and evaluate possible solutions for urban transport and logistics in and its surroundings. It is expected to support cooperation between government bodies, transport providers, businesses and citizens. The logistics plan will be prepared in a structure and format that can be easily integrated into a comprehensive mobility plan (stroke) of the city. One area of focus will be to reduce the emissions of cities by optimizing vehicles in cities through strategic direction and consolidation of cargo. The plan also prefers the efficiency of optimizing the movement of the goods. This includes the development of freight infrastructure and its integration into commercial streets, optimizing freight routes, intelligent operation control systems using real -time data, ensuring fast delivery and minimizing operating costs.
