Chief Coach Chelsea Enzo Maresca on Sunday evening caused a debate in the football world after boldly stating that the FIFA Club World Championship could soon arrest UEFA Champions League of importance. His comments came after the strong victory Chelsea 3-0 over Paris Saint-Germain in the final of the World Cup 2025 at the MetLife stadium in New Jersey.
“This competition contains the best clubs in the world. That’s why we appreciate the Champions League, or maybe even more,” Maresca said at her press conference after the match. “I feel that this competition (World Cup Club) will be just as important or even more important than the Champions League.”
Chelsea dominated the finals from the opening whistle. The growing star Cole Palmer amazed PSG with two fast goals in the first eight minutes and set the tone of what would become a one -sided affair. Joo Pedro added a third just before the half and ended the Hope PSG.
The French champions tried to create meaningful chances, while Chelsea is high, the strategy of man has suffocated their rhythm to man. “The intention was to go to man, because if you leave the PSG space, they will kill you,” Maresca explained. “This intensity was essential in the first 10 minutes, especially because of the heat -burning. It was really difficult to play as the game progressed.”
Final World Cup Club: How did it happen
The tactical approach Chelsea took advantage of the defensive weakness of PSG, especially on the left side. “We had a lot of success to explore the left side of their defense. Things worked for us perfectly because of the efforts that players spent,” said the Italian coach.
The match ended with an acidic note for PSG, when Joo Nejs was sent in the 84th minute for Marc Cucurelly’s hair campaign and increased to their frustration. Chelsea almost expanded her lead over Liam Delap, who was late in the game two close chances.
Maresca, who was part of the Manchester coaching staff when she won the Champions League three years ago, took advantage of her experience to underline the growing figure of the club in the club.
“I was lucky to be part of the coaching staff (in Manchester City), who won the Champions League three years ago,” he said. “But this tournament combines champion from every truly global continent. This makes it strange.”
For Chelsea victory means not only continental domination, but also global recognition. “It was a great triumph for us,” Maresca concluded. “Allowing Chelsea fans to wear the world champion on their shirts is a source of pride for us.”
