New Delhi: The Indian Food Safety and Standards Authority (FSSAI) has intensified its annual revenue control of food staff operators (FBO) and issued a strict warning of sanctions for non -compliance and inaccurate data.
In the order of 6 July, who saw the food regulator, he emphasized the critical importance of accurate and complete information in these compulsory submissions.
This step comes after observing that many yields contained irregularities, inconsistency or false statements.
Directive issued by Dr. Satyen Kumar Panda, Executive Director (compliance strategy), stressed that all licensing bodies are now obliged to strictly examine the annual revenues submitted by the eligible FBO in the relevant jurisdictions.
The aim of this step is to ensure accurate data for effective regulations, strengthen liability for compliance, solve inconsistencies and false statements and use the online system.
The FSSAI previously ordered an online submission of annual revenues for the FY 2020-21 exclusively through the system for compliance with food regulations (FOSCOS) through an order issued on 18 December 2020.
FOSCOS is an online platform developed by FSSAI for all aspects of licensing, registration and adherence to food regulations. Replaced the older license and registration system (FLRS).
According to FSSAI, while the submission rate has improved significantly, the recent command underlines the shift towards strict verification of the data provided.
A fundamental change in the current order, effective on January 8, 2024, introduces the provisions for FBOS to revise or update the presented annual returns to rectify unintentional errors.
FSSAI stressed that “the submission of accurate and complete information in the annual return is mandatory”.
The order also explains that “providing false or misleading information must attract punishment under Section 61 of the FSS Act of 2006.” The aim of this reminder is to promote timely corrections and prevent deliberate distortion, which will lead to criminal proceedings.
FSSAI also recommended FBOS to first use the device for revision/update to ensure compliance with the regulations. This step signals the Office’s obligation to ensure the integrity of food safety data and bear the FBO responsible for their submission.
