The drunk Audi driver reportedly ran five people, including two couples and an eight -year -old girl as they slept on the sidewalk near the Shiva camp in the southwestern Vasant Vihar, the official said on Saturday.
The incident occurred around 1:45 in the morning on 9 July. The driver, forty -year -old Utsav Shekhar, was arrested on the scene. Medical tests later confirmed that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, the official added.

Before the officers got on the scene, the injuries were already taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The victims were identified as Ladhi (40), her eight -year -old daughter Bimla, her husband Sabami aka Chirma (45), RAM Chander (45) and his wife Narayani (35), all Rajasthan residents.

“The preliminary investigation and eyewitnesses revealed that white audi was driving through the victims as they slept on the sidewalk in front of the Shiva camp. Shekhar, the resident of Dwar, was detained on the spot: The clerk said.
The police stated that court proceedings were initiated against the accused and an ongoing investigation was carried out for the purpose of determining the exact order of events and evaluating any further negligence.
The police said: “An eyewitness statement was recorded, stating that the Audi car took place through the above -mentioned persons while sleeping on the sidewalk. The driver of an offensive vehicle, namely Utsav Shekhar with the Dwarka resident, was 40 years old, was detained.”
The driver was allegedly drunk and after the accident also hit the truck when the police caught him. Legal steps against him were taken, the police in Delhi said, nor said.
