US President Donald Trump on Saturday on Saturday even more intensified the war on the tariff trade by threatening to introduce 30 % of the import of imports from Mexico and the European Union, starting on 1 August.
In the escalation of a trade war, which angered US allies and hoarse investors, Trump announced the latest tariffs by a separate letter to the President of the European Commission Ursul von der Leyen and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum published on Truth Social.
The EU and Mexico replied by calling the tariffs unfair and disturbing, and at the same time committed that the US would continue to negotiate on the wider trade agreement before the August date.
EU nations respond to Trump’s customs threat
According to AFP report on Saturday, French President Emmanuel Macron condemned Trump on Saturday to deposit 30 percent of tariffs on the European Union and call on a block to “definitely defend European interests”.
Macron expressed the French “very strong disapproval” of the announcement and called on the block to “increase the preparation of credible countermeasures by mobilizing all the tools available” unless both parties have reached the agreement within 1 August.
“France fully supports the European Commission in negotiations, which is intensified within August to achieve mutually acceptable agreements, so it reflects respect that business partners such as the European Union and the United States owed,” he wrote on social media.
The European Union “remains solid, united and ready to protect (her) interests”. “The tariffs are taxes. They promote inflation, create uncertainty and prevent economic growth. We will continue to build a strong business partnership worldwide,” said the chairman of the European Council Antonio Costa.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called the unauthorized tariffs. “Economic openness and business create prosperity. Unauthorized tariffs are destroying it. Therefore, we support and support the commission in its negotiations to achieve agreements with the US before 1 August,” he said.
The German Minister of Economy called for pragmatism in negotiating the European Union tariff with the United States.
“The EU now has to negotiate with the United States at the time it will remain pragmatically,” said the Minister of the German Economy Katherina Reich. “The pragmatic result of these negotiations needs to be achieved quickly,” she said.
The chairman of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU will take all the necessary steps to ensure its interests, including adoption of adequate countermeasures if necessary.
“The EU consistently favored the negotiated solution with the US, reflecting our obligation to dialogue, stability and constructive transatlantic partnership.
“Until August 1, we have remained ready to continue working on the agreement. At the same time, we will take all the necessary steps to protect the EU interests, including adoption of adequate countermeasures if necessary,” she said.
Mexico slams Trump’s threat as “unfair trade”
On Saturday, Mexico killed Trump’s latest threat of 30 % of tariffs as an “unfair agreement”, according to a government statement.
Mexico has been informed about new obligations – which Trump said that it would enter into force until August 1 – during interviews in the United States on Friday reported the AFP report.
“We mentioned at the table that it was an unfair agreement and that we disagreed,” said the Mexican economy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a joint statement.
Mexico is already negotiating an alternative to tariffs that would protect businesses and jobs on both sides of the border, delivered the ministries and stated that they hope to avoid duties.
Mexico is one of the most vulnerable to the Republican leader’s tariffs, with 80 percent of its exports for the United States, its largest business partner, the report added.
