The Kadapa district police on Tuesday arrested two ganja peddlers, including a home guard, and seized 2 kg of contraband from them.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) K. Prakash Babu told the media that both the accused were on the surveillance radar of the department for a long time and their arrest was the result of sustained surveillance.
Acting on a tip-off, Chinna Chowk Circle Inspector of Police (CI) B. Ramakrishna Reddy nabbed the duo in the city’s Prakash Nagar area on Tuesday. The accused have been identified as Katigandla Ramesh Babu (46), a house guard working with the control centre, and Chilakala Chan Basha (37).
According to the police, Ramesh Babu used to regularly go to the Odisha border to procure high quality ganja, which he sold at a high price to local sub-dealers in Kadapa. As Chan Basha was a regular buyer, his wife Subbamma alias Pyari confessed that she procured the ganja from Ramesh Baba.
Both the accused were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, produced before a local court and remanded in judicial custody.
