Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road is crawling as rain leaves the stretch waterlogged

The situation was so dire that the stretch between KR Puram and Iblur Junction witnessed bumper-to-bumper traffic, leaving commuters stranded for over an hour.

Commuters on Tuesday faced difficulty in navigating stretches of East Bengaluru, especially around the Outer Ring Road (ORR), as the evening rain along with ongoing storm water drainage works caused inundation of roads.

The situation was so dire that the stretch between KR Puram and Iblur Junction witnessed bumper-to-bumper traffic, leaving commuters stranded for over an hour. In certain parts of the stretch, commuters were seen getting out of their vehicles to clear the water.

A senior traffic police officer told The Hindu that several points were flooded along the ORR, Marathahalli and KR Puram Road stretch, slowing traffic. “Stretches witnessed knee-deep flooding, forcing us to divert traffic. Both the main road and service lanes were blocked,” the officer said.

The officer noted that Devarabeesanahalli Junction was the worst affected with flooding on both carriageways.

The knock-on effect of crippled traffic on the ORR was reflected in other sections that bore additional burden, but the situation did not improve. Other affected stretches included HAL Airport Road, Kadubeesanahalli Road, Bellandur-Doddakanelli Road, Bellandur Main Road and Mahadevapura Main Road.

Commuters took to social media to express their frustration, sharing videos and pictures of clogged roads. Devaraj Nadiger, user X, wrote: “Govt had so many months to fix ORR floods and yet same story every year. Ok let CM take oath first; people who voted can wait for their basic infra.”

“Curse of ORR where cars don’t even move for an hour,” wrote Vedant Kulkarni, another X user.
