The woman and her three children were injured when their car soon after the start in Polpully, Chittur, near Polpully, Chittur near Friday evening. Elsy Martin, 40 years, the widow of the late Martin Pool and their children, Aleen, 10, Alfin, 6 and Ema, 4, were injured during the explosion. Elsa is a nurse at Palana Hospital in Palakkad.
The accident occurred around 17:00 when Elsa launched a car after returning from work. It was suspected that the gas cylinder in the vehicle had lit and caused explosion.
The locals threw themselves on the scene after heard explosions and saved a woman and children, and took them to the hospital. Two of the children suffered severe burn injuries and were rushed to the Jubilee Mission Medical College Hospital in Thrissur for intensive treatment with others.
