The eight -year -old cheetard named Nabha, translated from Namibia into Kuno National Park (KNP), succumbed to the injury suffered in the park, and the officials confirmed on Saturday.
Nabha was seriously injured about a week ago, probably when trying to hunt inside her soft release. According to the director of Cheetah Project Field Uttam Sharma, the fractures on the ul and the fibula on the left side along with several other injuries.
Despite treatment in the last week, NABHA could not recover and died. It is expected to investigate the reinforcement of further details regarding the cause of death.
With the passage of Nabha, the population of cheetahs in the National Park Kuno is now 26 individuals. This includes nine adults – six women and three men – and 17 pups born in the park. Sharma assured that all the remaining cheetahs are healthy and prosperous. In addition, two male cheetahs moved from Kuno to Gandhisagar is doing well.
Of the 26 cheetahs in KNP, 16 live in the wild and successfully adapted to their environment. They have learned to coexist with other predators and regularly hunt and demonstrate strong skills in their new location.
The Kuno National Park has recently completed the administration of anti-coco-parasitic drugs to all cheetahs to ensure their permanent health. In particular, two maternal cheetahs, Veee and Nirva, along with their recently born pups are in good health and flourish.
The loss of Naby is a failure for the ongoing effort to protect cheetahs in Kuno, but the overall population remains stable and promising for the future of the species in the region.
