The family of D. Binda, who lost her life in the collapse of the Kottayam Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), welcomed the decision of the State Cabinet to provide financial assistance. However, they stressed that their immediate priority is the operation of Bindu’s daughter Navama.
“Right now is our only interest of the health of our child,” said Vishruthan, husband of Binda, who was in MCH in connection with his daughter’s operation. He expressed satisfaction with the government’s solution.
“It is good that the cabinet has decided. Let them announce and provide what they can. Offering work to our son and other measures are procedure. If they pass, it’s okay,” he added.
Inspection
Meanwhile, Minister of Health Veen George convened an inspection meeting on Wednesday evening with the aim of assessing the progress of work at operating theaters in the new surgical bloc in Kottayam MCH. The meeting was ordered by Keral Medical Services Corporation Limited (KMSCL) to complete the theaters within the set timeline. The instructions were also provided to ensure that the PACS machine is made available first.
The meeting also ordered that telephone connection and other basic tools in the surgical block were arranged without delay and that all waiting work will be completed in time. It was also decided that employees’ meetings should be made in accordance with the available infrastructure.
The director of medical education and the CEO of KMSCL was instructed to visit the university, assessed progress on the spot and started the necessary subsequent events.
At the meeting were the Minister of Cooperation of the HV Vasavan, another main secretary of the Health Department, the director of the state mission, the director and superintendent Kottayam MCH and other higher officials.
Alternative building
Meanwhile, because of concerns about the structural safety of the hostel block in MCH on the MCH campus, the university authorities decided to move medical students to an alternative building. According to officials, students will be temporarily moved to a newly built hostel designed for rescue students. Meanwhile, the maintenance work of the men’s hostenský block will be completed within a month.
The authorities also decided to speed up the procedures for the construction of a new men’s hostel building. The proposal to build a new hostel building at estimated Crore cost of 20.5 GBP was submitted to the government about five months ago. However, no measures have been taken.
