
Aryny Sabalenka’s misfortune in Wimbledon semifinals continued because the 13th seed of Amanda Anisimov for the first time advanced to the final of the prestigious grass court for the first time in her career. 23-year-old American, who first achieved the Grand Slam semifinals at the French Open 2019 as a teenager, needed two hours and 37 minutes to secure a hard fought 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victories at Court Center.
For Sabalenko it meant the third painful semifinal east in Wimbledon. In 2021 she fell into Karolina Pliskova and in 2023 ONS Jabeur ended the campaign. The trend continued in 2025, with Anisimova again too strong. With this victory Anisimov, she also improved her record in her head against Sabalenko to 6-3 and book her place in the first final of the Grand Slam.
Update of the Wimbledon 2025 semifinals
In the first set, Sabalenko had four chances of breaking Anisim’s administration in the ninth game, but none of them could be converted. This turned out to be expensive because Anisimova secured the first break soon and closed the file. Anisimova was excellent on her first portion and won 82 percent of these points – significantly better than 65 % Sabalenek.
Sabalenka, however, mounted a strong comeback and won the second set that moved the match to the referee and increased the hope of repetition of its previous heroism against Siegemund. This time Sabalenko dominated her first portion and won 84 percent of these points.
Despite the fact that Anisimov’s portion was missing four points, Sabalenko managed to terminate the file by holding its own portion.
In the third set, Sabalenka looked ready to take control after a premature break. But Anisimova responded quickly by her own break and then tightened her adhesion by providing another break to go up 4-1.
In the past in the set, Sabalenka had two points of breaks at 40-15 in the fourth game, but she couldn’t earn because Anisimova kept firm.
With Anisim used for the match, Sabalenka got a major break – she saved in this process.
In the 10th game, Anisimova won three match points in 40–15. Sabalenka saved two, but Anisimova transferred the third and exploded to celebrate when she closed the match.
Anisimova will now face the winners of the next semifinals among the five -time Grand Slam Iga Swiatlek and Belinda Bencic champion, who removed Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinals.
