The Tamil Nadu government began the acquisition of land for the second Chennai airport in Parandur in the Kancheepuram district when the registration process began on Wednesday.
According to a press release, 19 land owners from five villages, including Parandures, Podavur, Nelvoy, Valathur and Akkamapuram, attended an advisory meeting with the Kancheepuram collector, and agreed with the land.
Subsequently, a total of 17.52 acres of soil worth 9.22 GBP in Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation, which is an agency for the project, was registered.
The District Administration took steps to transfer compensation to bank accounts of land owners to Wednesday, the press release said.
This step is governed by a government order issued by June 25, regarding the amount of compensation of landowners in 19 villages.
“Although the registration process is over, we will not seize the soil immediately. Soil owners can stick to their country until they complete the harvest of their crops. Several villagers, except those from Ekanapuram, seem to be willing to say goodbye to the soil,” the official said.
Regarding the acquisition of houses, the officials said it would take more time. This was because the houses in alternative places had to be built and ready for a profession. Only then would the acquisition of houses begin.
Meanwhile, the protesting Committee for the Parandur Airport project claimed in its statement that the government had taken travel and food measures for some landowners and forced them to register its land for the project.
