Representatives of 11 countries will participate in the second BRICS Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) technical meeting to be hosted by Odisha from June 3 to 5 in Puri, the state minister said.

Odisha was chosen as the host state because of its “globally recognized milestones in disaster preparedness, effective cyclone management and early warning systems”, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said on Monday (Jun 1, 2026).

Mr. Pujari said the event in Puri will be attended by representatives from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE, Ethiopia, Iran and Indonesia.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will be present at the launch event on June 4, he said.

India chaired the first technical meeting of the BRICS Working Group on Disaster Risk Reduction, held virtually on April 29-30, bringing together member countries to advance a common agenda on disaster resilience.

“The first face-to-face technical meeting of the BRICS Working Group on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) under India’s BRICS Chairmanship is scheduled from June 3 to June 5, 2026 in Puri,” Mr. Pujari said.

He said delegates, policy makers and disaster management experts from BRICS member and partner countries will participate.

The discussion will focus on sustainable DRR financing, resilient infrastructure, anticipatory response and integration of traditional knowledge into disaster resilience strategies, the minister added.
