Pakistan’s Shan Masood named in ICC special panel to select best cricketers of last 25 years
NEW DELHI: Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood has been named in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) special panel formed to select the best international cricketers of the past 25 years. His inclusion has surprised many, especially with Pakistan currently struggling in the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh.Masood is one of two representatives from Pakistan on the panel, along with legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram. According to reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board recommended Masood’s name while the ICC was finalizing the panel. Despite criticism over Pakistan’s recent Tests, the PCB reportedly believes that Masood’s cricketing knowledge and managerial experience make him suitable for such a role. The ICC panel includes several notable former and current cricketers from around the world. India is represented by Ajit Agarkar, Irfan Pathan, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravi Shastri. Other notable names include David Gower, Ian Bishop, Mark Boucher, Greg Chappell, Matthew Hayden, Faf du Plessis, Shane Watson and Eoin Morgan.
Masood’s future uncertain
Masood’s future as Pakistan’s Test captain remains uncertain. Pakistan are staring at another defeat in Bangladesh which could increase the pressure on the left-handed batsman. Reports suggest that he might now reconsider taking up the senior administrative role at PCB.Masood was reportedly offered the position of director of international cricket and player affairs by the board last year. However, he declined the offer then as he wanted to complete the current cycle of the ICC World Test Championship as captain.Reports now suggest that Masood might be more open to accepting the role given his academic background and growing experience in senior positions in Pakistan cricket.
