A heavy downpour on Tuesday launched lightning floods in a mountain village in southern New Mexico, a well -known summer retreat, so three people were missing. The whole house was swept by rising flood waters.
The floods occurred only days after the lightning floods in Texas, led to more than 100 deaths and left more than 160 people missing.
Danielle Silva from the Ministry of Internal Security in New Mexico and the management of emergencies said that rescue teams have carried out no less than 85 fast water rescuers in the Ruidoso region, including individuals who were imprisoned inside their residences and vehicles.
No deaths were reported, but Silva mentioned that the full range of damage would not be clear until they end the flood water.
“This one hit us harder” “than expected
During the radio address on Tuesday, the mayor of Ruidoso Lynn D Crawford said, “We knew we would have floods … and he hit us harder than we expected.”
Crawford mentioned that several individuals were transported to the hospital, although the exact number was not immediately known. He urged the inhabitants to contact the emergency hot line unless their family members or neighbors were unclassified.
In New Mexico, the authorities advised residents to move to the higher ground on Tuesday afternoon, as the waters of the Rio Ruidoso levels would climb almost 19 feet (2.7 meters) in the middle of intensive precipitation within minutes. The National Meteorological Service issued a flood alerts for the region that was removed by vegetation due to recent fires.
The flood meter operated by the meteorological service together with the accompanying camcorder showed the turbulent waters of Rio Ruidoso, which spilled across the river to the nearby forest. In response, roads and bridges were.
Kaitlyn Carpenter, an artist living in Ruidos, rode on his motorcycle around the city on Tuesday afternoon, when the storm intensified, which made her resort to Riverside Downshift Brewing Company along with about 50 others. She began to record the debris that flowed along the Rio Ruidoso River as she noticed that the house was carried with distinctive turquoise doors. It was the home of the family of one of her closest friends.
She said that her boyfriend’s family was not inside the house and was safe.
According to Silva, two rescue teams of the National Guard, together with several local teams, were present in the area when the floods began and other guard teams were expected.
The region is particularly prone to floods since the summer of 2024, when the southern fork and salt fires swept through the arid forest and destroyed about 1,400 houses and buildings. The inhabitants had to escape the fire walls just to face serious floods later in the same summer.
“We know that water levels seemed higher than last summer. It is a large amount of water flowing, some of the new areas that did not fold last year,” Silva said.
