The jeweler was shot and another person was injured during a courageous armed robbery in the showroom of the jewelry in Gujaratian Surrat City late on Monday (July 7, 2025) in the evening, the police said.
According to the police, four armed men attacked the jewelry of Shinathji in the Sachin area in the city around 20:30 and started fire while looting valuables. When the owner of the showroom Ashish Rajpar tried to intervene, the robbers shot him twice in his chest. Rajpar succumbed to his injuries shortly after he was hurried to the hospital.
“When the robbers tried to escape, the locals were chasing. The attackers fired and injured one person, Nazim Shaikh, who kept the bullet on his feet,” the police said.
While three of the robbers managed to escape, one was caught after a short persecution. The accusation was reportedly defeated by the crowd before it was handed over to the police. He is currently undergoing treatment in a local hospital.
In an effort to escape the angry crowd, the fleeing robbers left the bag containing plundered jewelry near the showroom. “The locals renewed the bag and returned it to the jeweler,” the officers said, adding that it remains unclear whether the gang had carried more than one bag.
The police created several teams to detain the remaining suspects. The case caused new concerns about the security in the commercial zones of the city.
