In one of the largest operations against online betting in the country, the Karnataka State Cyber Command in coordination with India’s Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) targeted and blocked 8,750 betting websites, mobile apps and fraudulent betting Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) operating across India.

Based on credible intelligence, specialized cyber investigation teams conducted a coordinated online operation and uncovered organized groups operating illegal cricket betting platforms. Investigators found that operators used mirror domains, subdomains and cloned URLs to avoid detection and continue their operations.

Based on the findings, the Cyber Command registered a case under Sections 66C and 66D of the Information Technology Act and Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation is underway.

Officials said illegal betting networks have caused significant financial losses to thousands of citizens while exposing users to data theft, mental harassment and mounting debts. Many vulnerable individuals have reportedly lost their life savings after participating in credit-based betting schemes.

The crackdown substantially disrupted the illegal online betting ecosystem and prevented further financial losses, officials said.

Cyber Command launched an advanced technical investigation to trace the money trail, identify the bookies and uncover the larger network behind the platforms.

Director General of Police, Cyber Command, Pronab Mohanty, said the agency remains committed to protecting citizens from cyber crimes and ensuring a safe digital environment. He also appreciated the support of the I4C team for helping with the operation.
