Australian coach Andrew McDonald said it was too early to judge a test career on the back of four tests, but admitted that there was a great chance for home artists. The Constas, which debuted during the Border-Gavascar series Trophy 2024-25 against India, impressed all of its bold tabs style. During the ongoing test series, however, the West Indies again were not great for the 19 -year -old.
The constitution scored only 33 runs in four shifts, with its highest score was 25 and has an average of 8.25. After the second test, the opener of the captain Pat Cummins received And now head coach McDonald has come to defense a young man. In an interview with reporters, as Sydney Morning Herald quoted, coach Aussie said that Constas is still looking for legs in the current environment.
“Four games, eight shifts, are probably soon for someone to judge,” McDonald said about a constelled early test career. “I think challenges in a test cricket is not necessarily always your level of skills or your technique. It’s to deal with moments, pressure, all other things that come with it. He’s a player looking for legs in the environment.”
McDonald pointed out 25 that the constraint scored in the first shifts of the second test and felt it was a small step for 19 years and he structured well in his first 20-life balls and showed a positive intention.
“(It was) a small step forward in the last game with the first shifts. I thought the way he structured his first 20-life ball, had a positive intention, moved much better compared to the game where it seemed to be stuck in the middle and did not know if he was to play a shot and either ultra aggressive or ultra agressing,” McDonald said.
“We watch home artists carefully”
McDonald also admitted that for domestic stars there is an opportunity to enforce your case for the upcoming Ashes series at home with early games in Sheffield Shield and Australia A.
“At the beginning of the season, there is a great opportunity in the home cricket and it always leads to any test series,” McDonald said. “Last year, we saw Trophy Border-Gavaska Trophy, there was an opportunity for the players to stand there. At the moment, Australia (against Sri Lanka A) is at the highest end (Darwin), so we watch how it really is the opportunity it represents.
“First of all, we focus on what is here, right now. Everyone will speculate around who can come, what are the possibilities, but we are sure that the players we have here can do a job.”
The third test between Western India and Australia is scheduled for 13 July.
