
Hoshiarpur: On Monday, a mini bus overturned near the village of Sagran in the Hoshiarpur district and nine people were injured by nine people and 33 others were injured, the police said.
A car was also involved in the accident, they said.
The Mukerian Police Representative Kulwinder Singh Virk said that a bus with about 40 passengers was on his way to Dasuya from the city of Hajipur when an accident occurred.
The police said the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, although the investigation of the exact cause of the accident.
Passengers were injured to Dasuya Civil Hospital for treatment.
After the information was received, the deputy Commissioner Hoshiarpur Aashika Jain and the Chief Supervisor of the Police Sandeep Kumar Malik arrived in Dasuya to supervise rescue and auxiliary operations.
DC JAIN said the government would provide ex-GRATII £2 lakh every families of the deceased and £50,000 to those seriously injured. The government will also bear complete medical expenditures of the injured, she added.
“At the scene of the accident, it was found that the Alto car and the mini bus were damaged. The investigation is underway to see if the accident occurred due to excessive operation, overload or technical errors. Further measures will be taken to find out the probe,” SSP Malik said.
The deceased were identified as Raju Bala (5) and Meena (30), both from the village of Budhabaar; Love kumar (50) from the Kangra district (Himachal Pradesh); Gurmit RAM (65) from the village of Haler; Satwinder Kaur (55) from the village of Jalal Chak; Balbir Kaur (60) of dasuya; Sanjeev Kumar (30) from the Gurdaspur district; and Subag Rani (55) from the village of Sahora, said Dr. Manmohan Singh, head physician of the Civil Hospital.
One person’s identity, a man aged about 50, has to be established, he said.
Of the 33 people admitted to the hospital, three were critically injured – Raj Rani (55) from Sahora, Sanjeev Singh (45) from Čakraal and Khushi Mehta (22) – referred to higher medical centers, said Dr. Singh.
Six people were released after first aid, while the state of the remaining 24 injured was stable, he added.
Pandjab’s main Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed sorrow over the incident.
