In connection with the controversy over his stay in an official stay after the admissible time, the former main judge of India Dy Chandrachud (July 7, 2025) cleaned the air and said his luggage was packed and he and his wife and children soon moved to paid government accommodation.
Judge Chandrachud, his wife Kalpan and daughter Priyanka and Mahi, both are people with disabilities, lived in the official residence CJI 5, Krishna Menon Marg, New Dill.
“In fact, we have packed our luggage. Our luggage is already completely packed. Some luggage are already transmitted to the new house and some are held here in the warehouse,” said justice Chandrachud, while working on the reasons for exceeding it in bungalow.
50. CJI, which was made from office 8 November 2024, responded to the Supreme Court’s communication to the center to release the official bungalow due to alleged exceeding.
The former CJI lamented over the controversy and referred to the health of their daughters who required a home -friendly home.
“I won’t tell you how I feel, but you can imagine how I feel … One thing I would like to mention is that we are the parents of two children, Priyanka and Mahi. They are special children and have special needs.
He continued: “Even at home we maintain a high standard of hygiene, hygiene and we have a very specialized sister who takes care of them. So now it’s maybe a few days or not a few days, but maybe a few weeks as soon as possible. As soon as they tell me the house is ready for profession.”
Justice Chandrachud remembered that his older daughter Priyanka was in the ICU for 44 days in PGI Chandigarh in 2021 and January 2022.
“And you know, it was trouble when we were on vacation in Shimle, and now it is actually connected to the tracheostomy tube …” he added.
The former CJI pointed to the regular chest of its children, respiratory and neurological therapy in addition to the treatment of pain and speech.
He said that one of the children has difficulty swallowing, because the multidisciplinary team took care of both of their children every day.
Justice Chandrachud referred to former judge Cjis Uu Lalita and NV Raman and other judges of the Supreme Courts and stated that they were also awarded an extension of the time to stay in official residences.
“And importantly, this extension of time is awarded not only for me but also to other judges, such as the judge of Uu Lalit, who retired as CJI and after retirement on the Safdarjung road he got the house after his retirement,” he said.
Various other judges were also awarded an extension of time due to needs or personal problems, he added.
The former CJI also ensures that its daughters are not exposed to dust or allergies or any infection. Judge Chandrachud said that “he is not the first person to assign the government to the House” and claimed that the prolongation of time was the discretion of the main judge of India.
Referring to the sequence of events, Judge Chandrachud, after retirement he spoke to, then Cji Sanjiv Khanna, who followed him, and told him to return to 14, Tughlaq Road Bungalow, where he lived before CJI.
Judge Khanna, however, asked Judge Chandrachud to continue his stay in the Bungalo CJI because he did not want the official residence.
1 July, the Top Court administration wrote the center that Judge Chandrachud remained in the Bungalland CJI after the permissible period and was looking for property to be released.
In the communication sent to the Ministry of Housing and urban affairs (I can), the administration of the peak intended for the seated chief judge India should be returned to the court housing fund, the sources said.
The letter asked the Minister to seize the bungalow from the former CJI without further delay, because not only the permission that was granted to maintain accommodation was expired on May 31, but also the prescribed six -month period of further stay under the 2022 rules ended on May 10.
