Guilt from Bruising 336-Run defeat to India, Edgbaston, England, Gus Atkinson added to its third test team to alleviate their tired bowling troops.
Atkinson, 27 years, who did not perform since the injury of his hamstring in a one -time test against Zimbabwe in May, joined the growing list of six in the English 16 -member team. With a rapid turnover – just two days of rest before a quarter clash in Lordov – changes look inevitable for a party that has spent 234 overs in the field during the last two tests.
Brydon Cars, Josh Language and Chris Woakes – the English Tempo Trio in Birmingham – added over 75 overs each of the first two matches. India, on the other hand, intelligently rotated and even laid her pace of Jasprit Bumhrah for the second test. In the meantime, England seems to be running on vapors.
“We spent a lot of time in the field,” Captain Ben Stokes admitted. “Great speeds are still charging, but we’ll have to see how everyone gets up. Since it’s such a rapid turn, it will probably make the decision.”
Atkinson joined Jofra Archer, Sam Cook and Jamie Overton as a potential possibility of refreshing the tempo battery. Archer, the latest test appearance was in February 2021, bowed at the intervals in Edgbaston and approaching the long -awaited return. Head coach Brendon McCullum remained cautious, but he hoped, “We’ll let it settle down. When we get to the Lord, we’ll think about it well,” he said.
The short recovery window caused England not only for physical rejuvenation, but also for mental resetting. “We are disappointed,” Stokes admitted. “But we have three days to turn it. We have to overcome it just as if we got through the maximum victory in the first game.”
The imbalance of workload in the series is still sharp. England leading sailors bowed significantly more than their Indian counterparts, a factor that may have contributed to their declining return – and defeat in Edgbaston.
The conditions of the playground also came under control. While the collapse of the batting of England may indicate differently, Stokes noted that the surface did not play as expected. “When the game deepened, it was obvious that it did not behave, as we thought it would be. It became more and more suited to India.”
England: Ben Stokes (CAPT), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Shoaib Bashir, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Cars, Sam Cook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Chris Woakes.
