Arcot Taluk was arrested by a 34 -year -old driver for illegal sand mining from the Palalar River in Aroor Village near Arcot in Ranipet on Sunday.
The police said the arrested person was identified as V. Ajith, a native of Arcot. On the basis of warnings, a special police team led by Sub -Inpector K. Manoharan guarded Arcot – Walajah Main Road on the edge of Arcot when the team tried to stop Ajith, who managed the jeep charged with sand, but they could not stop it when driving the vehicle faster.
The police chased him and turned the vehicle to the section. The team checked the vehicle and found illegal river sand. The initial investigation revealed that the sand from Dry River of Palalar was illegally mined along Chennai – Bengalur Highway (NH 48) to sell it for private suppliers in the city. A case was registered. Was arrested. The police were confiscated by three vehicles and river sand. Later he was stored on a sub-yail in the middle prison in Vellore. The probe is running.
