Canara Bank on Monday announced that Brajesh Kumar Singh has taken over as the managing director and chief executive officer of the bank.

According to a notification dated 30 May 2026 by the Government of India, his appointment will be effective till 30 April 2029 (the date of his retirement) or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

“Under Mr. Singh’s leadership, Canara Bank would continue to focus on accelerating digital transformation, expanding financial inclusion, maintaining robust asset quality, enhancing customer experience and creating sustainable value for all stakeholders,” the bank said.

Mr. Singh has over three decades of banking experience in various areas including corporate lending, retail banking, human resources, business development and strategic operations. Prior to joining Canara Bank, he served as Managing Director of Indian Bank.

His appointment follows a recommendation by the Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) and subsequent approval by the Cabinet Appointments Committee. He is an Agriculture Graduate from Allahabad Agriculture Institute and completed his MBA in Finance. He is also a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB). He also completed the Executive Leadership Development Program at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore.

Mr. Singh succeeds K. Satyanarayana Raju, who completed his tenure as MD & CEO on 31 December 2025.
