
The protests persisted at Keral University on the second consecutive day on Friday, when activists of the Student Federation of the Indian (SFI) tried to block the interim Chancellor Thomas from entering the campus.
She assumed the accusation before the day after the vice president picked up Mohanan Kunnummal on the overseas road. Its appointment is closely monitored by the controversial suspension of the registrar of the KS Anil Kumar, which evokes protests, especially by left -wing organizations.
SFI staff, waving black flags and singing slogans, tried to block its entry into the university areas, shortly after its arrival. Activists promised not to allow her to enter the area.
Escalate
The tension continued later on the day the demonstrators tried to re -block Dr. Thomas when she tried to leave the premises. This required the intervention of the police in both cases to safely accompany it. This led to confrontation between activists and police staff, accusing the coercive authorities of their manipulation. The organization signaled that in the coming days it plans to escalate protest.
Members of the Syndicate Bharatiya Janata (BJP) accused a student and service organization associated with left -wing association of resorting to protest tactics that disrupted the daily functioning of the university.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Higher Education, who also works as a professional Chancellor of the University, wrote the vice -chairman and ordered it to immediately cancel the order to suspend against Dr. Kumar. Reportedly stated that this step violates university standards.
‘External influence’
The letter adds that the vice -chairman has no power to suspend the registrar. Under the 1974 University Act, the registrar is an officer appointed syndicate and only the legal body has the power to initiate disciplinary proceedings, including suspension.
The Minister also noted that there was no urgent circumstance that would justify such an extreme step and indicate that the action appears to be subjected to external influence. He said the command of the university’s interests and the university education industry.
