Turki Al-Sheikh Confirms Berchelt-Bivol Trilogy if Bivol Wins Again
In an exclusive interview with a prominent boxing publication, Turki Al-Sheikh, the General Sports Authority (GSA) chief, has confirmed that a trilogy fight between WBA (Super) and Ring magazine champion, Gervonta "Super" Davis, and WBC and WBA (Undisputed) light heavyweight champion, Artur Bivol, is likely to happen if Bivol emerges victorious in his upcoming title defense.
Bivol is set to face undefeated contender, and former world title challenger, Joe Smith Jr. on March 12 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bivol, who has not lost a fight in his 20-fight professional career, has been seeking a unification bout with the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Jermall Charlo, or Deontay Wilder to name a few.
Berchelt, 28, has been on a rollercoaster ride in his career, having lost his status as the WBC junior lightweight champion to Regis Prograis in 2019. He has since moved up to lightweight and has manufactured consecutive wins, including a spectacular knockout victory over Mario Barrios in his most recent outing.
"The GSA is open to making a trilogy fight between Berchelt and Bivol, if Bivol wins again," said Al-Sheikh in an exclusive interview with the publication. "We have been monitoring Berchelt’s progress and are impressed with his form. We believe that a fight between the two would be a mouth-watering contest for the fans. Both fighters are skilled and have shown their mettle in the ring. We will review the situation after the Smith Jr. fight and make a determination on whether to move forward with the Berchelt-Bivol trilogy."
A Berchelt-Bivol trilogy fight would be a significant fight for the GSA, as it would provide the organization with an opportunity to promote a major event in the United States. The fight would also provide a platform for Bivol to prove himself as one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world.
"This is a fight that the fans are waiting for," said Al-Sheikh. "We believe that Bivol has the potential to be one of the greatest light heavyweight champions of all time, and a fight against Berchelt would be a true test of his skills. We will do everything in our power to make this fight happen if Bivol emerges victorious on March 12."
The fate of the Berchelt-Bivol trilogy now rests on the outcome of the March 12 fight between Bivol and Smith Jr. If Bivol secures a victory, it will set the stage for a potentially epic trilogy against ‘Super’ Davis, with the GSA ready to roll out the red carpet for this mouth-watering contest.
